GREAT STORIES BEHIND GREAT BUILDINGS
Have you already noticed? In our new advertising line, we are emphasising the properties that we have been able to accompany as reliable partners. Because we want everyone to know one thing: We don’t just produce building materials, but entire buildings.
Whether flats, public facilities or workplaces are being built with our support or whether we are helping historic buildings to achieve new splendour – we provide support from the selection of the right building materials to the award ceremony at the Baumit Life Challenge. It‘s clear that every building has a story to tell. And we are proud to have written a part of it ourselves. We would like to present some of them to you in this article.
Baumit x Wings, Romania
Building contractor Dorin Bob calls it the most difficult project he has ever tackled. And not without warnings from other experts. Many said it would never work, others saw extraordinary challenges ahead. A reason to stop believing in it? Not for Dorin Bob. And he achieved the unbelievable. Together with a few people who stood behind him and said: It can be done. Like Baumit, for example. In the meantime, the Romanian city of Cluj has grown a pair of wings. They are intended to serve as inspiration, especially for young people who want to create something extraordinary. With a solid foundation, it serves as inspiration for the city to grow beyond itself and leave the beaten track. As a proud partner, Baumit is delighted that the “Wings” have been nominated for the Baumit Life Challenge 2022 in the “Multi-family house” category.
Zatoka House, Serbia
The house, which blends into the landscape, tells the story of a family that has found its way out of the fast-paced, noisy city and back into nature. Not least because both parents had already sought refuge there in their childhood. It was clear from the outset that they wanted to be involved in the planning of the house. It was important to listen to nature. The biggest challenge for the family, together with architects Jovana and Milos Marsenic from Studio Arkhitekton, was to create something that existed in complete harmony with nature. It was not to be warded off, but rather to move into the building. The simple form of the house blends in with its surroundings. Ecological materials were used for the interior and exterior design. The high humidity levels caused by the nearby river were also to have an effect on the interior. The reason why the family opted for Baumit Ionit Color wall paint? It is completely ecological, free of harmful emissions and binds dust and allergens in the room. A material in symbiosis with nature – for the family, the Baumit Ionit system was the only right decision.
Cukrarna Gallery, Slowenien
Built in 1828 as a sugar factory. Today it is a multifunctional space for contemporary art and a highlight of Ljubljana’s cultural infrastructure. Architect Marko Studen from Skapelab talks about the challenges and how they were overcome.
The historic shell was literally hollowed out and had to be constantly protected from collapse. In the meantime, gallery spaces are floating above the ground floor, where culture finds space to present itself at the same time. Hear and see the story of the transformation of a historic building that ultimately won the Baumit Life Challenge 2022.
The small manor house, Hungary
When civil engineer Katalin Jauch Hajösne and architect
Istian Palinkas first visited the manor house, it was hidden behind trees and divided into many smaller buildings. The first step was to open up the building to the park, renovate the façade and the interior and restore the small manor house to its former glory.
With our special refurbishment products, historical refurbishment with building materials as used in the 19th century was possible.
The client wanted a modern reception area next to the small manor house, which posed an architectural challenge for us. The decision was made in favour of a glass back, in which the house and the park were reflected. It was crucial for the renovation to find a system that worked with the same building materials as in the 19th century. Baumit offered the right solution.
Balcova Cemevi, Izmir
As a place of worship for Alevis, Cemevi should also be a place for
eating, reading and making music together. For this reason, appropriate rooms are arranged around the place of worship. The shell of the spacious building is covered with reddish plaster in ochre and earth tones and holds together the different units hidden behind it. It is precisely this building material that becomes the uniform language of the building. In Baumit, architect Nevzat Sayen has found a partner who not only sells building materials, but also tells the story of the building in a lively way.
Our plaster creates structure and cohesion.
